The Key To Success Is Practice...
In the words of author and writing coach Sara Holbrook, the art of using words is a lifetime process.
“You have to practice,” she said. “It’s not something you try once, and then you know it.” The point may be obvious to adults, but Holbrook made it a point to stress it to the seventh-graders at Garfield Middle School in Lakewood, where she had a series of in-class seminars recently.
The appearance of the Mentor-based writer of poetry and “how-to-write” books was part of the “Garfield Goes Global” series.
For most of the school day, she met with individual language arts classes. At the end of the day, she hosted a group assembly for all students. Many had already read at least one of Holbrook’s 14 books, “so they knew where she was coming from,” said Garfield language arts teacher Leslie Eiben, who helped orchestrate Holbrook’s appearance at the school. read full article by David George, Sun News here
